Naomi Returns From The GIA
Naomi Returns From The GIA
A member of our Cornfield Road team, Naomi, who is also the daughter of our Managing Director Ashley, recently completed a 3-month course studying Jewellery Design at the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) London Campus. GIA is a non-profit establishment devoted to research and education in the field of gemmology, founded in 1931. Situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, the London campus is just a 15-minute walk from the Hatton Garden jewellery district.
After graduating in June 2021, Naomi, who is also a Bachelor of Arts, came to work in our Cornfield Road branch, where she began experimenting with bespoke design. The desire to study the course stemmed from her enjoyment when working with clients, repurposing their jewellery to give once much-loved pieces a second lease of life. With experience in the fashion and design industry, Naomi aims to be considerate and resourceful of materials and the impact this could have on our environment.
During the last 12 weeks at GIA, Naomi has learnt traditional drafting techniques in addition to jewellery design theory and artistry. Although challenging at first, Naomi particularly enjoyed the drafting and rendering of precious gemstones and metals. Upon her return, Naomi hopes to build on the skills learned and is already looking at further courses to expand her knowledge.
Here at W.Bruford, we love celebrating life's special moments with you. With our new premises scheduled to open later this year, we are excited to bring you new concepts such as bespoke design and a stunning new jewellery workshop to bring your ideas to life.
