In the 1960s, the new sport of scuba diving was all the rage. For divers, timing was everything, and Breitling set out to five them the most clear-cut dive watch possible by eliminating any feature that didn't support their lifesaving needs underwater. This pared-down watch was named the Superocean Slow-Motion. What remained were clean lines, chunky luminescent indexes, squared-off hands and a high-contrast dial ring, all aimed at maximum legibility. Practical, yes. But what people really fell in love with was the look.
The new Superocean retraces the Slow Motion's celebrated design codes, while adding modern features, like a scratch-proof ceramic-inlayed bezel.
Best of all, this is no longer strictly a dive watch - surf with it, swim with it, hit the beach bar with it, then wear it our to dinner.
A contemporary twist on a classic model: Meet the Superocean Heritage B20 42 UK Exclusive
Breitling's 1950s-era SuperOcean dive watch was designed in response to the rise of professional and leisure scuba diving. In 1957, Breitling took the plunge into the undersea world with two pioneering dive watches called the SuperOcean, the world's first dive chronograph. Today's Superocean Heritage combines vintage heritage-inspired design cues with modern craftsmanship, and features signature details such as the iconic triangular-shaped hands, and a unidirectional polished black ceramic bezel. Its tonal lacquered anthracite dial in subtle contrast to the black ceramic bezel creates an alluring play of light, adding depth and refinement to the design.
The Breitling Superocean Heritage B20 42 UK Exclusive model features a robust stainless-steel case paired with an ultra-hard, scratch and shock resistant, black ceramic bezel, which includes a luminescent dot at 12 o'clock, a nod to the watch's origins as a dive watch and functional tool for underwater timing. On the case back, "One of 500" is engraved, highlighting its exclusivity.
The watch is water-resistant to 200m, and is powered by the Breitling B20 Manufacture Calibre, a COSC-certified chronometer known for its precision and performance.
